“Well I can see how that works for you, you like to sell.  But me, I don’t want to sell anything.  I could never do what you do.”

Zing, snap, sting!

That reply sort of made me feel dirty, like I was doing something wrong.  No one wants to have their profession questioned and salespeople always seem to be under the magnify glass.

I don’t want to be compared to those pushy mall people who chase you down asking you to try their sea salt scrub.  I run from them too!

Rather I focus on being the salesperson who helps determine if what I am selling meets your needs and bring value to you.  The sale is about you.

No pressure, no pushing, just sharing what I’ve learned and seeing if it’s a fit for you.

Of course, there are times when that type of selling in necessary.  Like making sure your kids wear their seat belts.   Or getting them to carrying through on a commitment.  Or not texting and driving.  I suspect you can add many more items to this list.

Parenting is the toughest selling job in the world because we know that what we are selling really isn’t a choice, but a necessity to get through life.

Makes selling skin care seem easy.

The floor was packed, both levels!  In some places it was hard to get through the aisles.   We felt a little left out.

We may have been in the corner, but we still rocked the show!

Our corner placement had something to do with this and that or the other thing but we made the best of it!   We were by one of the convention entrances and the ladies room – talk about foot traffic.  LOL.

Ok – I may be exaggerating a bit.  The above  picture was taken before we opened for the day, but it made you smile, right?  On average we had 10 – 20 people in the space  learning about skin care from France.

All kidding aside, I connected with over 55 women during the three day event who were impressed enough with what they experienced at the VuBAR to take samples of products to try in their homes.

We enjoyed spreading the buzz about Votre Vu in the fine city of St. Louis, the Gateway to the West.

And since the city was founded by colonial French traders, it only makes sense that we establish Vu in this beautiful town!

Sure, genetics plays a part in how you age, but it’s much smaller than you think.   Intrinsic, or natural aging, is guesstimated to contribute to about 10% of the aging process.

So my skin’s destiny is not predetermined.  That’s a relief to some and a major disappointment to others.

Maintaining a youthful appearance requires two things; prevention and protection. As we get older, some very interesting things occur within our skin. Collagen and elastin production – that’s what gives our skin that flex – that firm look and appearance – slows down 65% between the ages of 20 and 80. Ugh.

Our skin thins at a rate of 6% every 10 years and over time, ours skins ability to hold water diminishes. It gets thin,  and it can’t retain and hold moisture, not even the moisture that it creates naturally. As a result, the supple appearance is replaced with a dry, dull look. These are known as intrinsic aging factors.

So what makes up the other 90%?

In the war against aging, this enemy  has a name: actinic aging.

And we can fight it!

Actinic aging is a by-product of being exposed to the environment. In the environment, we have exposure to free radicals and these free radicals break down skin cells.

A picture tells a story so much better than words so take a look at these identical twins.  We all know identical twin share identical DNA so they were both born with the same intrinsic aging factors.  It’s what they could control that made such a difference in their skin.

So while one twin fought the war, the other crossed into enemy territory.

So what can you do to maintain a youthful appearance?

Here are my top 7 tips for looking younger:

1. Don’t smoke. Ever.

2. Don’t tan (except for the 10-15 minutes a day needed for vitamin D production).  Spray tans are best for achieving that golden glow.

3. Use sunscreen daily.

4. Develop methods to manage stress.

5. Sleep.

6. Drink lots of water and eat dark, colorful fruits and vegetables.

7. Use a skin care line filled with Anti-oxident protection: anti-oxidents fight free radical damage from all of the above,
